1 & 2 Timothy - A Pastor and His People
It is a great privilege to have these personal letters between two close men of God. It's exposition of the lives of the Christian worker and that the local church requires a solemn approach and a submissive response, since this is an apostolic word from the lips of the Lord himself. Paul's letters to Timothy are full of feeling and insight into Paul's thought life, as he seeks to encourage and instruct a young pastor in his ministerial work. Paul tells us how to live for Christ, giving examples of spiritual soldier, athlete and husbandman. Telling him of the importance of endurance, and to bear fruit. We to be skilled workmen for Christ, rightly expounding Gods truth faithfully, so we need not be ashamed. The need for personal purity, to avoid foolish questions and strife. We see Paul need of companionship, his friends have departed, and Paul is finding prison life is hard, and he is lonely, so he urges Timothy to come join him and bring John Mark for he is profitable to me.
